My Shopping Successes ... so far!

Well, based on all the good deals I mentioned in the previous post, I thought I'd show you what I've bought. Here are my purchases (so far):

Albertson's:

I know I've talked quite a bit about multiple transactions, but really haven't broken it up for you to see, so thought I'd do that for you on this shopping trip:

Transaction #1:
3 pkgs Charmin Toilet Paper (12 double roll pkgs)
On sale for $6.99 each
Had 3 $1 coupons from the P&G coupon booklet
Had 2 doubler coupons from an Albertson's mailer ($1 each)

$6.99 x 3 = $20.97
subtract 3 $1 coupons and 2 doubler coupons ($1 each) = $20.97-$5 = $15.97
add tax = $1.42
Total Spent = $17.39
Total Saved = $17.00
Also received a $5 and a $3 catalina since these are items from the P&G Promo going on.

This is a great deal on toilet paper (for the 3 packages I bought, they averaged $3.65 a piece if I include sale, coupons, and the catalina). Why didn't I buy more? Well, a couple of reasons. First, I only had 3 $1 coupons. Second, I only had 2 doubers coupons. And third, for those of you who remember my post on The Great Toilet Paper Purchase of 2008, you'll remember that I have plenty of toilet paper. However, that doesn't prevent me from picking up a few packages here and there when it's a great deal - I do need to backfill what we've used since then. :)

Transaction #2:
2 boxes Kellogg's Raisin Bran
2 Mission Tortillas
2 Cherry Pepsi 2-liters
2 Danimals Smoothie Drinks
2 Danimals Crush Cups Yogurt 4 pk
1 Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt 6 pk

Used in ad coupon for Raisin Bran (makes each box $1.49, limit of 2 items)
Used 1 IP coupon for $1.50 off of 2 boxes of Kellogg's Raisin Bran
Used in ad coupon for Mission Tortillas (makes each $.97)
Used 2 $1 internet printable coupons for the Mission Tortillas
Used in ad coupon for Pepsi and Mt. Dew 2-liters (makes each $.79)
Used 2 $1 coupons for the Danimals Smoothies
Used 2 $1 coupons for the Danimals Crush Cups
Used 1 $1 coupon for the Dannon Light & Fight Yogurt
Since my Dannon items totalled $10, I got an additional $2 off with the Dannon Promo
Used my $5 catalina from the P&G Promo from my first transaction

Here's the math for you number lovers like me:

Sale Prices (how they rung up):
$1.67 x 2 = $3.34 (Raisin Bran)
$1.50 x 2 = $3.00 (Mission Tortillas)
$1.20 x 2 = $2.40 (Cherry Pepsi)
$2.00 x 2 = $4.00 (Danimals Smoothies)
$2.00 x 2 = $4.00 (Danimals Crush Cups)
$2.00 x 1 = $2.00 (Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt)
Total = $18.74

In ad coupons:
$.18 x 2 = $.36 (Raisin Bran: $1.67-$.18 = $1.49 each)
$.53 x 2 = $1.06 (Mission Tortillas: $1.50-$.53 = $.97 each)
$.41 x 2 = $.82 (Cherry Pepsi: $1.20-$.41 = $.79 each)
Total = $2.24

Internet/Paper coupons:
$1.50 x 1 = $1.50 (Raisin Bran)
$1.00 x 2 = $2.00 (Mission Tortillas)
$1.00 x 2 = $2.00 (Danimals Smoothies)
$1.00 x 2 = $2.00 (Danimals Crush Cups)
$1.00 x 1 = $1.00 (Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt)
Total = $8.50

Subtotal = $18.74 - $2.24 - $8.50 = $8.00
Subtract $2.00 for Dannon Promo = $8.00 - $2.00 = $6.00
Subtract $5.00 Catalina from P&G Promo = $6.00 - $5.00 = $1.00
add tax = $.43

Total Spent = $1.43
Total Saved = $31.79

I know that was a lot of stuff, but hopefully it helps you see how you can break things up into multiple transactions in order to use your coupons and catalinas in the most effective way.

Totaling Both Transactions:
Total Spent = $18.82
Total Saved = $48.79

(And I still have the $3 catalina to use if I decide to pick up the specified P&G items that it specifies it must be used on!)

Smith's:

Items Purchased (all in 1 transaction):
4 gallons milk
~3.5 lbs grapes
4 pkgs Cache Valley String Cheese (we're cheese lovers and only like this brand of string cheese, so it was a steal at this price, hence the reason I picked up 4 pkgs of 36 - good thing it's good until September - but don't worry, we'll have it eaten in about a month!)

Total Spent = $38.71
Total Saved = $14.64

(Most of this savings was with the cheese since other items were the perishables I needed for the week.)

Walgreen's:

Items Purchased (all in 1 transaction):
2 pkgs Quilted Northern Toilet Paper
2 boxes Glad Cling Wrap

Used 2 $1 coupons for the Quilted Northern
Used 1 $1 off of 2 coupon for the Glad Cling Wrap
Used in ad coupon for the Quilted Northern
Used in ad coupon for the Glad Cling Wrap
(Don't worry, I won't type all of this out for you like I did above)

Total Spent = $14.44
Total Saved = $11.00

So you're probably wondering what the "so far" thing was in the title of this post right? Well, since I'm completely crazy, I was at Albertson's at 6am this morning doing my shopping. Once I got home, my Mom called to let me know about the doubler coupons she found in the Deseret News. I picked up two copies of the Deseret News while I was out shopping at Smith's, so now I have 2 sets of 4 doubler coupons and I'm now contemplating going back to pick up a few more things since I have more doubler coupons that will help make a bunch of things a much better deal.

If you want more information on the deals going on this week, see my previous post and check out the lists on Grocery Smarts or PYP for details!

Good Deals for the Week!

Here are the good deals worth mentioning for the week:

Albertson's:
- Northwest Red Delicious or Granny Smith apples (3 days only! 5/1-5/3) - $.69/lb
- Russet potatoes 10 lb. bag (3 days only! 5/1-5/3) - $1.99

- Pepsi or Mt. Dew 2 liters Limit 2 - $.79 with in ad coupon
- Duncan Hines brownie mix - $.65

- Kraft salad dressing 16 oz. - $.50 with coupon
- Mission medium flour tortillas 8 ct. Limit 4 - FREE-$.97 using in ad coupon and internet printable coupon
- Quaker Quakes or Tortillaz - FREE with coupon
- **P&G promo: Save $5 on your next purchase when you spend $20 or more on participating P&G products.** Items worth noting: Charmin bath tissue 24 regular, 12 double, or 6 mega rolls, Gain liquid laundry detergent 75-100 oz., Pampers Baby Dry or Cruisers Big Pack diapers 60-96 ct., Pampers Refill baby wipes 180-216 ct., Pringles Super Stacks, and Tide liquid laundry detergent 75-100 oz. $5 catalina will print when you spend $20 OR MORE, so if you want to do multiple sets, split them up into multiple transactions. The $5 coupon doesn't have any limits as far as being able to purchase more P&G products with them (like previous ones have), so you should be able to roll the catalinas from one transaction to another. In addition to the $5 catalina, every $20 spent gives you an additional $3 catalina that can be used to purchase certain P&G items. The coupon states the following: "Congratulations! Your purchase qualifies you for $3 off when you buy any three of the these participating items: Crest Paste, Gain, Herbal Essences, Joy, or Pampers." So if you're buying any of these items, plan your transactions accordingly so that you can use your catalinas effectively in order to keep your out of pocket as low as possible. Also, keep in mind that if you sent for and received the P&G coupon book a couple of months ago, there are better coupons in there than listed on the shopping page. Makes Charmin, Cascade, Bounce, etc. all better deals!
- **Dannon promo: Save $2 instantly when you spend $10 on participating Dannon products. Mix or Match.** Great deals on yogurt, check out the Albertson's page for all the details.
- If you supplied a comment on the Albertson's page a month or so ago and were mailed 2 doubler coupons and additional savings, be sure to use those as they're only valid this week. Also, there are additional doubler coupons in the Deseret News and Tribune today (possibly other papers as well), so if you don't get either of those papers delivered to your home, it may be worth a quick trip to the newsstand to pick up a few. These doublers from the paper are good from 4/29-5/5, so all ad long. There are 4 doubler coupons in each paper (meaning you can use 4 per shopping trip) and each has a max value of doubling up to $1 - so each paper gives you a max savings of $4 - at 50 cents a paper, it's worth picking up a few!

Smith's:
- Broccoli or Cauliflower - $.59/lb
- Red Seedless Grapes - $.99/lb ($.89/lb at the Saratoga Springs Smith's)
- Cache Valley Cheese Sale - 33% off - not the best deal on shredded or block cheese (unless you won't eat anything but this brand), but good deal on string cheese

- Softsoap, 7.5 oz Elements - $.64 with coupon

Associated Food Stores:

- Lynn Wilson's flour tortillas 20 oz. - $.79
- McCormick Grinders .77-2.12 oz. - $.25-$1 depending on coupon
- Western Family diced green chiles 4 oz. - $.50
- In addition, Macey's has Johnson's Baby Wash and Lotion - $1 with coupon

Walgreen's:
- Quilted Northern Bath Tissue, 12 Double Rolls, Limit 2 - $4.99 with in ad coupon and coupon from Sunday's paper (good deal as these are normally $8.99 - in fact Albertson's has them on sale this week for $8.99, so regular price is even higher there)
- Glad Cling Wrap, 200 sq/ft, Limit 3 - $1.49 with in ad coupon and coupon from 4/5/09 paper
- Reynolds Wrap, 20 sq/ft, Limit 3 - $.34 with coupon from 3/15 paper
- Limit: 3, Pepsi Products, 12 pack - $2.66/12 pk when you purchase 3 and factor in $3 register reward good on next purchase
- First Aid Promo: Buy $10 in participating items and get a check out voucher for $4 off your next shopping order. Limit 1 card per transaction. Items worth noting: Johnson & Johnson Band-Aid Bandages (8 to 80 ct), Benadryl (.26 to 1 oz), and Neosporin (.26 to 1 oz).
- Allergy Promo: Buy 2 participating items and get a check out voucher for $3 off your next shopping order. Limit 1 card per transaction. Items worth noting: Tylenol Allergy (24 ct), Sudafed PE (18 to 24 ct), and Benadryl (10 to 24 ct or 4 oz).
- Remember that getting/using RR's (register rewards) are tricky. You can only get a certain RR once per transaction, meaning you can't buy $20 worth of the first aid products in the first aid promo and get two $4 register rewards in one transaction. However, you can do two separate transactions to split them up and get a $4 RR from each transaction. Also, most (if not all) of the stores are only letting you use one RR as a form of payment per transaction. But if you are doing more than one transaction, they will let you use one on each. My local Walgreen's has a certain cashier that is really picky about this stuff. She only lets me do 2 transactions per shopping trip (and to her, going out to the car and coming back in does NOT constitute another shopping trip), she also will not let me roll RR's between the transactions - meaning if I get a RR on my first transaction, she will not let me use it on the next one. Be aware that there are people out there that may make things difficult for you. If you can, try and get another cashier or go when you know they won't be working (that's what I do). Just keep all of this in mind as you are planning your lists.

Rite-Aid:
- Johnson and Johnson Rebate: Spend $15 get $5, Spend $20 get $8, Spend $25 get $10 rebate. That was about all I saw.

Some pretty good deals this week! Check out the lists to get all the details and to be sure I haven't missed anything you might use. Great deals this week, especially at Albertson's when you combine the sales, promos, in ad/paper coupons, and doubler coupons!

May all of you have pleasant and money saving shopping experiences!

Deseret News Article

I read about an article that was on the front page of the Deseret News today. It's an article about couponing and specifically mentions Pinching Your Pennies and it's founders. It explains about how PYP works and how their method differs from the Grocery Guru and how he uses coupons. I thought it was an interesting article and thought I'd pass it on in case anyone gets a different paper like I do and was interested in reading it. Here's the link:

Deseret News Article

Personally, I like shopping the PYP way, but everyone does things differently and you definitely have to do what makes sense for you based on time, resources, and needs. Hope you enjoy!

Good Deals for the Week and My Savings!

There are some great deals this week! Make sure to look at the lists closely to determine the best deals for you. Here are just a few worth mentioning:

Albertson's (another great week - tons of promos!):
- Roma tomatoes - 99 cents/lb
- Russet potatoes 10 lb. bag - $1.88
- Shoppers Value milk, gallon whole, 2%, 1%, or skim - $1.89
- Albertsons reusable shopping bag Limit 6 - $0.59 each
- Pop Promo: Buy 3, save $1 instantly. Buy 6, save $2 instantly. Buy 9, save $3 instantly. Valid on select 2-liter varieties of Coke, Pepsi, D. Pepper, and Mtn Dew. - ends up being $.87 per 2-liter bottle when you buy in groups of 3.
- Kraft/General Mills promo: Save $4 instantly when you spend $10 on participating products below. Mix or Match.** Tons of participating items that are great deals.
- ConAgra promo: Save $10 on your NEXT shopping order when you spend $25 or more on participating products. Again, tons of participating items that are great deals.
- Kellogg's Movie Ticket promo: Purchase any 10 participating items, get 2 FREE movie tickets, up to $24.00 value. Mix or Match.** Not a ton of great deals, but if you see a lot of movies, may be worth it.
- Earth Day promo: Spend $25 on participating items, get the book "Fresh Living" by Sara Snow FREE.** Unless you are dying to get this book, this promo doesn't seem to have a ton of great deals.
- Kashi promo: Save $3 instantly when you spend $15 on participating products. A few great deals, but since Kashi products are traditionally more expensive than other brands, a lot of the items are good for Kashi, but not great compared to others.
- FYI, the instant savings usually has no limit to how many you can do per transaction. However, the wording on the Conagra promo suggests that you get a $10 catalina when you spend $25 OR MORE in participating products. That suggests that you'll only be able to do get one $10 catalina per transaction, so plan your shopping accordingly. Also, please remember that if you're planning to do tons of multiple transactions that Albertson's has a new policy of 3 transactions at a time before getting back in line. This helps keep the lines moving and is courteous to other customers.

Smith's:
- Strawberries, 1 lb - $1.29 ($.99 at the Saratoga Springs Smiths)
- Extra Lean Ground Beef, 85% lean, 2 lbs or more - $1.79 ($1.59 at the SS Smiths)
- Smiths Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, super value pack - $1.79
- Mountain Dairy Gallon Milk - $1.69 ($1.49 at the SS Smith's)
- Kelloggs Cereal - $.49 with coupon
- McCormick Grillmates - Free with coupon
- Pepperidge Farms Goldfish - $1
- Pillsbury Brownie Mix - 50 cents
- Quaker Quakes Rice Cakes - Free with coupon
- Kroger Deluxe Ice Cream - $1.49

Associated Food Stores:
- Strawberries, 1 lb. pkg. - $1.50
- Shur Saving Gallon Milk, 1%, 2% or Skim - $1.67
- Glaceau Vitamin Water - Free with coupon
- Shasta Soda Pop, 12 pk. cans - $2.00
- Hunt's Snack Pack Pudding, 4 pk. - $.75 with coupon
- Rosarita Refried Beans, 16 oz. - $.65 with coupon

Walgreen's:
- Didn't see a whole ton on sale this week, but there were a select few deals.

As always, please check the lists to be sure I haven't missed anything and to see all the details and information on the promos. There are really some great deals this week!

Here's an example of my purchase at Albertson's this morning:

Items Purchased:
5 Betty Crocker Muffin Mix
5 Kraft Bagelfuls
2 Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks
4 boxes Wheat Thins
2 boxes Ritz
4 bags Gardettos Snack Mix
5 Cherry Pepsi 2-liters
4 Dr. Pepper 2-liters
3 Taco Bell Taco Sauce
3 Pillsbury Grands Biscuits

Total Spent= $31.41
Total Saved = $80.16

I was lucky since everything I wanted/needed was in the Kraft/General Mills Instant Off or Pop Promos, so I didn't have to split up my transaction into multiples or worry about rolling catalinas. I also had a $5 off of $30 coupon that I received in the mail from Albertson's. So I saved quite a bit between the sales, promos, and all my coupons!

Good luck and Happy Shopping!

Albertson's Doubler Coupons from Sunday's Paper

That's right! There are more Doubler Coupons from Albertson's in today's Sunday paper. This week they were in the ad/coupon section of the paper in a stand alone one page ad. There are 3 doubler coupons, which means you can use 3 per transaction. Here are just a few things to keep in mind:

1. Notice they are labeled 1, 2, and 3 - so if you have multiple copies, make sure you only use 1 of each number per transaction.
2. Remember that they will only double the value of a coupon valued at $1 or less, so you can't double anything above that.
3. They are only valid until April 21, 2009; so don't miss out if there are some things you're thinking of picking up.

If you're wondering just how to go about choosing what to buy with your doubler coupons, check out this post I did last month on some ways to determine what to buy:

Have fun and may you create many good deals!

Swiffer Deal!

I read about this deal on another website and just had to share. It's a rebate from Swiffer. You can get $10 back in debit card form when you purchase $20 worth of swiffer refills or get $5 back when you purchase $10 of swiffer refills. The details of the offer and link to the pdf document to print and send in is located at the following link:

Swiffer Rebate Offer

Click on the "Download Form for a $5 Debit Card" or "Download Form for a $10 Debit Card" - both bring up the same pdf document that you can print. There is a section where you indicate which debit card you are applying for. You can only submit one rebate - either the $5 or $10 rebate, not one of both.

You can also click on the "Save over $15 on Swiffer Products" link to the right of these links to bring up a page listing coupons available on swiffer products. Click on one of the products and it will take you to a page asking a question about where you learned about the product. Select the appropriate answer, then click submit. Once you do that, you will be brought to a page where you can enter your name, address, and email so that they can send you a coupon booklet with applicable swiffer coupons, as well as coupons for other products - looks like the booklet might also contain coupons for Cascade, Dawn, Febreze, Home Made Simple, and Mr. Clean - a total of $30 in coupon savings.

Just a word of caution, when I signed up for my coupons just now, it said that due to the high demand for their coupon booklets, that mine would probably not be received until 6-8 weeks from now. In order to use the rebate, you have to purchase your products between April 1, 2009 and May 15, 2009, I'm not sure my coupons will be here in time. I will probably just purchase the products I want before the coupons get here, then hold on to the coupons until I need the products again - assuming the expiration dates are not immediate. If you want however, you can wait until right before the ending date requirements for the rebate and see if the coupons happen to arrive and you can purchase the products in the required time frame using the coupons. Completed rebate requests must be postmarked by May 30, 2009 and received by June 15, 2009. Remember, the rebate is good only on purchases of swiffer refills (swiffer duster refills, swiffer wet jet pad/solution refills, or sweeper sweeper dry/wet refills).

Just a note on the debit card. I've received these type of rebates before and they are basically a visa or mastercard that has your rebate amount (in this case either $5 or $10) loaded on to it. Since it's a visa or mastercard, you can use it anywhere that accepts those forms of payment and you can purchase anything - so it's almost as good as cash. In my opinion, a little better since normal rebates come as a check and you have to make a trip to the bank to cash or deposit it.

Coupons or not, the rebate is basically a 50% discount and is a good deal. Since I'm just about ready to do my spring cleaning, I can definitely use a good deal on these swiffer refills - I use a ton of them! Hope this helps you all get some great money back on cleaning products.

Good Deals for the Week!

After last week's crazy sale at Albertson's, I'm actually glad that it's a really light week in sales. I'm also grateful that the sales that are available are easy and don't require a lot of thought. If you tried to do the Kraft/Unilever Promo and the Unilever Rebate last week, you must be tired like I am and hopefully you're glad to have an easy week too. Even though it is light, there are a few good deals out there to be had. Here's just a few:

Walgreen's:
- Lysol Cleaning Products, 16 to 32 oz - Buy 1 Get 1 Free - use coupons and buy at least 3 different products and you can still send in the Lysol Rebate for $3 back - see previous post for details.
- Kellogg's Cereal, 12 to 17 oz - 83 cents each when you buy 4, use coupons, and factor in the $3 register reward (limit 4)
- Colgate Toothpaste - FREE or overage - if you use coupon and factor in the $3.29 register reward
- Personal Care Promo: Buy 6 participating items and get a check out voucher for $6 off your next shopping order. Hard to know if items are good deals since prices were not listed in the ad. I do know that Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion is a good deal. For example: Regular price = $3.49, 25% off = $2.62, use coupons either $1 or $1.25 off each. Purchase price (assuming have 6 coupons) = $8.22-$9.72 + tax, get $6 register reward back. Final out of Pocket = $2.22-$3.72 + tax or $.37-$.62 + tax each. By the way, the Walgreen's in Saratoga Springs and Lehi are both out of the lotion, so you may want to call first to verify they have enough. I'm assuming that other participating items in this promo are probably good deals as well, but I haven't priced/tried/heard about any others.

As always, I'm sure I've missed a few other good deals available that might be of interest to you. I recommend you check out each of the lists yourself to see any other deals and find out additional information on the ones I listed above.

Happy Shopping!

Lysol Deal

I found out about another deal on Lysol products today and wanted to share it with you. This week Albertson's has some of their Lysol products on sale for 50% off. In the ad it lists the wipes, bathroom cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, and all purpose cleaner. But when I got to the store a few more of the varieties were also on sale (the 4 in 1 cleaner, kitchen cleaner, and a few more).

In the 3/15 SS packet, there are the following coupons:
Lysol All Purpose Cleaner Pourables, any .50/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15
Lysol All Purpose Cleaner Trigger, Antibacterial Kitchen Cleaner or Lysol Plus Bleach, any .50/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15
Lysol Bathroom Cleaner or Mildew Remover, any .75/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15
Lysol Disinfecting Spray, any 12o z. or larger $1/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15
Lysol Disinfecting Wipes, any $1/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15
Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner, any .75/1 (5-11-09) SS-3/15

That in and of itself is a pretty good deal. However, in the 3/15 SS packet, on the same page as the coupons, there is information about a rebate of $3 when you buy 3 different products. Click on the following link for information and to download the form: Lysol $3 Rebate Site. Simply click on the "<< Print and download mail-in offer" link and it will bring up a pdf document that you can print, fill out, and mail in. Just remember that for the $3 rebate, you have to purchase 3 different Lysol products.

So here's just one example of how you can work it:

1. Go to Albertson's and purchase 1 bathroom cleaner, 1 toilet bowl cleaner, and 1 kitchen cleaner. Bathroom cleaner was $1.99, Toilet Bowl Cleaner was $1.49, and Kitchen Cleaner was $1.99
2. Use 3 coupons from 3/15 SS packet - 75 cents off of bathroom cleaner, 75 cents off of toilet bowl cleaner, 50 cents off of kitchen cleaner
3. Total paid = $1.99 + $1.49 + $1.99 - $.75 - $.75 - $.50 = $3.47 + tax
4. Mail in rebate for $3 back
5. Total spent for 3 Lysol products = $.47 + tax

I just noticed that there are also online coupons for the Lysol products on the same page as the the rebate details - look at the right hand column and click on the Print and Save box and it will take you to the coupons. They aren't quite as good as the coupons in the 3/15 SS packet, but better than nothing if you don't have the coupons from the paper.

You can, of course buy any of the Lysol products (excluding the Neutra Air products), but in order to get the best deal, you'll want to purchase those that are on sale for 50% off and have a coupon associated with them. Remember that the 50% off sale at Albertson's end on 4/14/09. There is a limit of 1 rebate submission per name, address, or household.

Great deal on cleaning supplies!

My Purchase at Albertson's

I know the sale at Albertson's this week is very confusing and it takes some time to work your list and get exactly what you want and need for the different offers. So I thought I'd post my purchase to give you just one example of how it can be done. Remember that we're all different and buy different things, so your purchase won't be exactly the same, but hopefully it will help reduce some of the confusion.

Items Purchased:
2 All Small & Mighty
1 Kool Aid Sugar Free Punch
5 I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Sprays (U)
2 Skippy Peanut Butter (U)
4 Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion (U)
7 Wishbone Salad Dressing (U)
1 Wishbone Bountifuls Dressing (U)
8 Dannon Frusion Smoothies
2 Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt 6 pks
1 Cook's Shank Portion Ham (bone-in) $12
4 Cube Steak (~ $2 a piece)

Total Paid = $39.79
Total Saved = $90.07
Will Claim Unilever Rebate for Ham for $12, so final out of pocket is $27.79

All of the items with a (U) listed above are participating products in the Unilever rebate, the sale price for each of these (before coupons) equals $40 exactly, so that make me qualify for the Unilever rebate. That $40 in addition to the All and Kool Aid added up to be just over $50, so I qualified for the Kraft/Unilever Promo for $10 off of meat when you buy $25 in participating products (since I had $50, I got $20 off of meat). I couldn't find a ham that was $20, so I opted for a $12 ham and some cube steak instead. My final out of pocket will be less since I'll only get $12 back from the Unilever rebate, but I do end up with 4 pkgs of cube steak, which my family loves, so I feel good about that. In addition to the meat and rebates, there is also a Dannon Promo going on where you get $2 back instantly when you spend $10 on participating products. So between my 8 frusions and 2 pks of yogurt, I was just over $10, so I received $2 back.

I found at the Lehi store yesterday morning and it seems that a lot of other people are finding this to, that the $10 in meat (or multiples of $10 if you are doing more than 1 per transaction) are not coming off automatically. So your best bet is to double check your items to make sure they add to the correct amount, before you get to the checkstand, and then make sure you get the $10 (or however many multiples of $10) off. The cashier at Lehi had a code to take off the $10 if it didn't automatically come off. If you have your list ready to go, just keep an eye as things are ringing up to make sure they ring up at the sale price, then be sure all of your promos come off at the end. If they don't, be sure to let the cashier know and in most cases, they are more than happy to adjust the total as it should be. If you are nice and show them your calculations, they are usually nice back and will be happy to help you. There are those few stores and cashiers that are a little more difficult, so it might be a good idea to double check as you head in to be sure you can do multiples in 1 transaction and get more than 1 $10 off meat credit. I've read about a few stores limiting it to 1 per transaction, although we've heard from Albertson's corporate that there isn't a limit.

Hope that helps to see one actual example. Again, there are many different ways to do this and many different things you can buy. Just be prepared, have some back-ups, and above all try to be nice. I've seen couponers get all frustrated and yell at the cashiers and that really that doesn't help anything. Whether they are all out of a product or if promos aren't coming off automatically is definitely not their fault. All it does is frustrate everyone and ruins the experience not only for the customer, but all the other customers the cashier has to help. We definitely don't want to lose our priviledges of using coupons in conjunction with sales, so keep positive and you'll find that everyone keeps happy and we all get to keep enjoying the excellent deals!

Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions!

Great Deal at Albertson's This Week!

I know I'm posting this early, but wanted to give you a heads up on a great deal at Albertson's starting tomorrow. They have a Kraft/Unilever Promo going on where you get $10 in free meat (from their meat dept or butcher block - hotdogs, bacon, etc. aren't items you can use) for every $25 you spend on participating products. So if you spend $50, you get $20 in free meat. I'm not sure if there's a limit, but they are asking you to only do 3 groups of free meat per transaction (or spend $75 get $30 in free meat) and then get back in line.

In addition to this promo, there was a Unilever ham or turkey rebate in the Unilever packet from Sunday's paper (4/5/09) where you get a rebate of up to $20 for one ham or turkey if you buy $40 in Unilever products. If you combine the two promotions, you can get some great deals. So to get the best savings, you could do the following, for example:

Buy $40 worth of Unilever products (this qualifies you for the Unilever rebate)
Buy $10 worth of Kraft or Unilever products (this plus the $40 gets you to $50, which qualifies you for two of the $10 off of a $25 purchase for the Kraft/Unilever Promo)
Buy a ham or turkey for $20 (assuming you can find one that is exactly $20)
Total = $70
Subtract $20 for the Kraft/Unilever Promo
Subtract any coupons you have
Pay $50 minus your coupons
Mail in your rebate for $20
Total Out of Pocket = $30 minus coupons for all items

Keep in mind that to get the $10 off of spending $25 Kraft/Unilever promo, you can use both Kraft and Unilever items, but you have to have $40 of just Unilever items to qualify for the Unilever rebate. Now, these Unilever items don't have to be purchased now or even at Albertson's, you just have to purchase $40 of Unilever items between now and the end of the month and they can be on different receipts. So don't feel you have to overly work your list to get the exact amount of Kraft and Unilever items. You can also purchase a ham or turkey elsewhere, but you won't get the double discount on it like mentioned above. Also, as you're looking at the lists, in the coupon column there will be an underlined U for products that are Unilever - that will help you determine which products you can buy that are participating items in the Unilever rebate.

Also, the rebate is for only 1 ham or turkey up to $20, so you can't buy 2 hams or turkeys and be reimbursed for both. Also, the rebate is up to $20, so if you buy a turkey for $24 you will only be reimbursed for $20 of the $24. Also, the Kraft/Unilever Promo is for up to $10 in meat, so if you spend over $10 per $25, then you will only be instantly credited for up to $10 for each $25. For example, if you buy $50 in participating products and buy $22 in meat, you will only be instantly credited for $20. Hope that makes sense.

One other thing to remember. So you can look at the Kraft/Unilever Promo in two ways: 1. You pay for the meat and get the $10 off of your participating products, or 2. You pay sale price - coupons on your particitpating products, then get the meat for free. When the PYP administrator did the Albertson's list, she took the promo off of the participating items you have to buy to show you how good of a deal they were. So if you are looking at those final prices on the list, you will have to remember that you will also be paying for your meat. You can also look at it the other way, where you get the meat for free, but will pay sale price - coupons for your participating items (without the 40% discount - $10/$25 = 40%). Either way it will be the same price, just remember that you won't get the 40% discount and free meat, you can bookkeep it on one thing or the other, not both. If this is confusing, leave me a comment or email me at jjzhawks@hotmail.com and I'll try to explain better.

I did see the Smith's ad, but the GS/PYP lists aren't up yet, but I don't think there are a whole ton of items on sale this week. However, the Smith's caselot sale is going on for another week, so if you didn't get your items yet, there's still time. I did hear though, that they aren't ordering in any more, so they won't be issuing rain checks or anything like that. Also, the caselot items won't be listed in the ad, so you may want to keep a hold of this week's ad if you want to remember how much everything was.

Associated Food Stores and Walgreen's had a few good deals, but I'll leave it to you to look over those lists as well as the rest of the Albertson's ad to see all of the other good deals, there are a few of them out there.

This is a bit of a tricky ad at Albertson's this week if you are trying to combine both the Kraft/Unilever Promo and the Unilever Rebate. As I've mentioned before, having things all planned out on your list will help you tremendously in making sure you get things as closely to how you have planned.

Good Luck!

Multiple Coupon Packets in the Paper Today!

Sorry for being a little lax on the posting the last few days, I've not been feeling well and my blog posting has been the thing to suffer. I'm hoping to feel better soon, but I did just want to post that there were 5 coupon packets in the Sunday papers today: 2 Smart Source, 1 Red Plum, 1 Proctor & Gamble, and 1 Unilever. If you don't get many papers or wait for the time to pick up extras, today may be the day. There were a lot of good coupons and I would suggest picking up a few extra if you feel you could use them and are able. As always, I recommend that you just find a newspaper dispenser where you feed in some quarters to get a paper instead of going into an actual store.

Keep in mind that there is a big Proctor and Gamble sale at Smith's this week (until Tuesday) and with the new coupons from the P&G packet, those items are now an even better deal. The lists will likely not reflect these new coupons, as they don't tend to redo them for new coupons. But it's worth looking over the lists or the ad again and keeping your P&G packet near to see if any of the new coupons apply to items you are interested in picking up.

Also, remember that because next week is a holiday, there aren't any coupon packets scheduled to be delivered with your papers. Just wanted to remind you before you dash out to get your papers first thing (like I do) and are disappointed. I suspect we've gotten so many this week to make up for the lack of them next week.

Walgreen's:
- There were a few deals, but nothing major and most of them were not as good as I've seen in the past at other stores.

As always, you should check the lists yourself for deals I might not have mentioned.

Definitely think about stocking up at the Smith's caselot sale this week. A lot of their items are lower than the caselot sales at other stores and they only do this twice a year - around this time in the spring and again in the fall. I've already been to Smith's this morning and purchased my cases as well as a bunch of the P&G items on sale. Here's what I bought:

Items Purchased:
- 1 case Libby's corn
- 1 case Libby's green beans
- 2 cases Kroger Tomato Sauce
- 2 cases Kroger Cream of Chicken Soup
- 2 cases Kroger Peaches
- 1 case Hunt's Spaghetti Sauce
- 6 boxes Tampax Tampons
- 5 Secret Deodorant

Total Paid = $136.70
Total Saved = $90.55

Plus I got a fuel reward for 15 cents off a gallon on my next fuel purchase at a Smith's gas station!
